Challenge #17: "Hello Card" by Heather Moll

I couldn't resist creating a quick card as well with the products from Jayme.

I tore the cardboard and then inked it with some green ink on the stem and then stamped a grid pattern on top of both pieces of cardboard.

What a treat it was to receive this box of goodies in the mail! I had never seen the Prima Down Home Collection either and was very excited to give the corrugated cardboard a try. :)

I loved the texture in the kit and thought it would work well with these outdoor pregnancy photos of my sister that I took.

And yes, in case you are wondering, you can easily sew through the cardboard, just go slow!

Challenge #17: Finding My Roots by Sonja McLean

I believe it's important to scrapbook both the good times and bad. This past month has been challenging for me and my children. But each experience we face, whether good or bad, is a chance to grow and learn, which is why I wrote my children this letter and enclosed it in a 6x6 book.

Journaling reads, "I'll be the first to admit that life is not fair. Amongst the beauty and happiness it possesses, there are moments of darkness. I pray you will never have to live through too many of them. I find that loving yourself, surrounding yourself with good people and counting your blessings, work to ward off the pain you may experience at times.

Just believe that everything happens for a reason. It may not seem like it at the time, but it's true. Just love yourself and live honestly...good things will always come to you.

Sometimes it's hard to believe in love when you're faced with grief or anger. I know that for a fact! But once I focus on rediscovering my roots...remembering who I am and the people that truly love me, the smoke clears and I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

No matter where I am, I'm here for you guys. I love you unconditionally and will forever be in your corner. Love, Mom."

Challenge #16 - Let's Emboss by Cari Locken

I love embossing!!  I love the added texture and dimension that it can add.

There are a few ways to emboss these days.  You can use those brass stencils or other regular stencils, Nestibilities, and Cuttlebug are some brands that are easily accessible.

I love using my Cuttlebug and the embossing templates.

Once you've embossed your designs (like Debby has shown you below) there are a few other techniques that you can do to them.

You can sand over the embossed image (this works especially well when using cardstock that has a white core or another color like Coredinations  cardstock), and ink the image lightly. I've done these 2 things below on my layout.

I sanded on the orange and turquoise cardstock and inked lightly on the light green cardstock.

There's also a variety of products that you can emboss with.  Cardstock is one of them as we've already seen.

But you can also emboss on chipboard.

You can also use cork - I embossed and then lightly inked the image so that it would be more visable.

You can emboss on acrylic too.  You just need to make sure that it's not too thick otherwise it won't go through your Cuttlebug machine and you may end up wrecking your template in the process.

On this acrylic piece I embossed it with an argyle design and then adhered a rub-on design over top.

Another technique to use when dry embossing is to first emboss your design, then gently rub Versamark over the raised image and sprinkle with embossing powder and heat emboss.  Then spray with Glimmer Mist and gently wipe away the mist.  You will see that the part that didn't get embossed is where the glimmer will remain.  It's actually a pretty cool technique and I'm sure I'll do this again sometime.

Challenge #16 - Embossing Plates - by Debby Visser

This week we are playing with embossing folders!  They are so fun and add great dimension and just the perfect little touch to projects.

I only have the Cuttlebug embossing folders and a few cut and emboss folders.  The embossing folders are just textured folder plates.  The Cut and embossing folders, first cut out a shape and then emboss on that shape!  These are my FAVourite!  I use them ALL the time.  In fact if you have taken a recent class with me, you have probably played with them too!

This first card was done using Cuttlebugs embossing plate 'Leafy Branch'.
Other Supplies: Bazzil cardstock, Stampin Up butterfly stamp, Fiskars shape scissors, Stampin Up water colour pencils and unknown ribbon.

 

This second card was made using a cut and emboss folder 'With Gratitude'.  The flower background was embossed using the embossing folder and the flower and word 'thanks' were cut using the die that comes with this set.  I also used embossing plate 'Swiss Dots' (my favourite), on the side paper piece.
Other supplies: Stampin Up pattern paper and cardstock, Stickles and a gem.

 

This little bird house is my favourite sample, I created for todays blog.  It is just so cute and was pretty easy to assemble.  I bought the bird house from the dollar store.  First I painted it green on the platform, little post and inside, then the rest was painted white.  Then I used white cardstock and embossing plate 'Swiss Dots' to cover the walls and roof.  I love the dimension it gave! Then I added lots of little flowers and LOTS of stikles; hard to see, but there is lots of glitter on this baby!
Other supplies: Bazzill cardstock, Stampin Up Trio flower punch, Dollar store gems, MM paint, Rose Moka little letter stickers, Bazzill just the edge strips, Stikles.

 

 

And the next few samples are from other pages/projects I have created using cut and emboss plates and embossing folders.  The little butterflies are one of my favs!  First you cut out the butterfly, then emboss him.  So cute!!!

Challenge #15 - Easter by Anna Zalamea

Ever since Claire was born, one of the Easter traditions we follow is filling up Claire's basket with treats and goodies. Mostly she gets chocolate bunnies, but last year, we added colorful Play-Doh and fun little toys like bunny eyes and ears. Afterwards, we go on an egg hunt around the house searching for yummy chocolate eggs.

 

Tip: To create the silver glitter frame, I stuck down double-sided tape on 4 sides to create a square, then applied 7 Gypsies glitter over the tape. I learned this technique from Sonja's "Snow Angel" album class. :)

Supplies used: Basic Grey patterned paper, chipboard stickers, brad, diecut; Scenic Route rub-ons; 7 Gypsies glitter

Challenge #15 - Sunrise Service by Leigh Penner

The past few years have brought a new Easter tradition in our family: getting up before the sun, getting ready for church and driving to a hill close to our church to have an informal church service while we watch the sun rise.

 

Supplies used: Bazzill cardstock, My Mind's Eye and Fancy Pants patterned paper, Scenic Route letter stickers and Heidi Swapp ghost clocks.

Challenge #14 - Chasing the Rain by Lisa Thibaudeau

 

How can one live in Vancouver, BC and not have an ongoing relationship with the rain? We must coexist with the wet because the beauty of colour are a direct result. On a dreary, grey, rainy day such as this, it's impossible to miss the bright colours of spring starting to pop through our surroundings. I wanted to capture the playfulness of my daughter trying to catch the raindrops. An oldy but a goody. :)
